Kim Sun Young has been styling Korean and Asian hair in Sydney for years, and the digital perm is one of the services we are asked for most. Strong, straight hair needs a different approach to fine European hair: rod size, solution strength and processing time all change. Our stylists are trained in Korean perming technique and work to the curl pattern you actually want to wear day to day, not a one-size setting.

Every perm starts with a consultation. We check your hair's condition and previous chemical history, talk through the shape you're after, and recommend the perm — and any treatment — that will hold it.

• Digital perm (C-curl) — a soft, rounded end curl that shows when dry. The classic Korean look.
• Body wave / S-curl — loose movement through the mid-lengths for a fuller, styled finish.
• Volume / root perm — lift at the roots for flat or fine hair.
• Down perm — flattens the sides for men and anyone with hair that sticks out above the ears.
• Men's perm — texture and movement through the fringe and top.

Allow two to three hours. After consultation, your hair is prepared and wound onto heated rods, processed, neutralised and finished with a blow dry so you can see the curl. We'll show you how to dry and style it at home before you leave.

Aftercare matters: don't wash for 48 hours, scrunch-dry rather than brushing out, and use a curl cream or light oil on damp hair. A hydrating treatment every few weeks keeps the shape defined.
